100 chrysanthemums by Keika
Is a series of woodcut images depicting various types of beautiful chrysanthemums, the national flower of Japan. The Imperial Throne of Japan is also called the Chrysanthemum Throne.
In Japan, the chrysanthemum is the symbol of the sun, perfection, longevity, strength and nobility.
This is a re-carved woodcut from circa 1960.
This is a woodcut that is made with the same techniques as the original woodcuts. In this series they used improved pigments instead of natural pigments. This has the advantage that the woodcuts are more resistant to exposure to e.g. sunlight.
