Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji
Thirty-six views of mount Fuji is a series of woodcut images of Mount Fuji from different perspectives. This series was created by Katsushika Hokusai. The most famous image is 'The Great Wave'. The series, which was created in 1827, originally consisted of 36 prints. However, 10 more prints were added later, bringing the total to 46.
This is a re-carved woodcut from circa 1960.
This is a woodcut that is made with the same techniques as the original woodcuts. In this series they used improved pigments instead of natural pigments. This has the advantage that the woodcuts are more resistant to exposure to e.g. sunlight.
