Why this edition
This painting emerges from a body of work built around the idea of love as we once knew it. He believes that everyone, wherever they are, can identify with moments in life when they felt cared for, protected, or cherished. At a time when the world is becoming increasingly unfamiliar and frightening, these memories become anchors. They remind us of what love feels like and encourage us to give it, share it, and pass it on.
"Don't worry I'll fix it" speaks of love that transcends the boundaries people have created for themselves—boundaries of race, culture, or background. In the painting, a Black woman rests on the lap of a white woman who is gently brushing her hair. It's tender and intimate, but also a scene rarely seen in real life. That contrast is part of the message. When love is genuine, these boundaries lose their meaning. What remains is care, trust, and connection.
Barry says we can't ignore the times we live in. There are people who have given up what they know, where they come from, or what's expected of them, just to be with the person they love. For him, this work shows that love isn't just a feeling. It's a choice. An action. A gesture.
