Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaidō

Is a series of woodcut images created by Utagawa Hiroshige and Keisai Eisen.

The Kiso Kaidō route ran just like the Tōkaidō Route from Edo to Kyoto, but unlike the Tōkaidō, who was walking along the coast, passed the Kiso Kaidō through the country. Along this route there were sixty-nine different post stations, which provided stables, food and shelter for travelers.

This is a re-carved woodcut from circa 1960.
This is a woodcut that is made with the same techniques as the original woodcuts. In this series they used improved pigments instead of natural pigments. This has the advantage that the woodcuts are more resistant to exposure to e.g. sunlight.
