Jurriaan Molenaar - tba 2023

For this work, Jurriaan Molenaar used an existing painting as his starting point. Only the areas where he wanted to apply his precise architectural forms were carefully sanded down—layer by layer, without damaging the canvas. The original painting remains visible in the untouched openings, intact and unaltered. In this way, a dialogue emerges between old and new: Molenaar places his geometric composition within the existing environment of the painting, not erasing the past but working in harmony with it. The piece is framed in the original frame of the old work, merging history and the present into a single image.
